Here’s the honest answer to “who do I play as in Persona 6?”: we don’t know yet. Atlus has confirmed nothing about the protagonist — no design, no name, no gender, no voice cast. The status table above is mostly leaks, and leaks are not facts.

What we do have is one fairly credible leak and a pile of rumors stacked on top of it.

Blonde male protagonist — Leaked, medium-high confidence. Multiple leaked images point to a blonde male lead. That would be a series first — P3, P4, and P5 all gave you dark-haired protagonists. This is the most solid thing we have, but Atlus hasn’t said a word about it.

A female or dual protagonist? — Contested. One leaker (eXtas1s) suggested two playable leads, which raised hopes for a female option. Newer, more-trusted leaks (Lolilolailo) suggest the blonde boy is the sole protagonist. The momentum is against dual protagonists right now, but it’s not settled.

The protagonist’s name — Unknown. And this is where a myth needs busting.

⚠️ The “Karaki Tōma” myth

You’ll see the blonde lead called “Karaki Tōma” all over Reddit. That name is almost certainly wrong.

The leaked design docs included filenames. The name 唐本冬馬 (read as something like “Karamoto/Karimoto Tōma”) was attached to character file cha03 — a side character. The protagonist is file cha01, labeled 主人公, which just means “main character / unnamed hero.” No name was attached to the blonde lead.

So someone saw a Japanese name in the leak, saw the blonde protagonist, and glued them together. They belong to two different characters. The protagonist’s real name hasn’t leaked at all.

💡 Note: “persona 6 karaki” has basically zero search traffic — almost nobody outside the deep leak threads is using that name, and now you know why you shouldn’t either.

The art-style debate

Some fans looked at the leaked concept art and argued it looks more angular and unlike Shigenori Soejima’s modern style — sparking a “did Soejima even draw this?” debate. One leaker claims the designs were team-directed and Soejima-supervised. Soejima is confirmed as the series artist; whether that leaked art reflects the final look is unverified.

So what can you actually count on?

Almost nothing about the protagonist is locked. The school-student-with-a-double-life structure will almost certainly return (the official blurb confirms “live a double life in modern-day Japan”), but the specific person you play hasn’t been revealed. Expect real answers only after Persona 4 Revival ships in February 2027, when Atlus lifts its info embargo.
